Energy efficiency and ecological construction

Environmentally friendly solutions have always been a natural part of Ideapark’s operations. They are often economically good solutions as well – for example, reducing energy consumption also saves money. The energy efficiency of our property is already above average, and we are constantly improving it.

Although we primarily strive to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, we also offer our customers new opportunities to reduce their own. Using Ideapark’s services is also an environmental act, as purchasing everything in the same location reduces your carbon footprint.

Our concrete actions include:

  • Ideapark was awarded the Breeam in use property certificate on 15 August 2022 with the grade “Very Good”. Breeam in use evaluates activities of existing buildings. Sustainability certificates for buildings are intended for monitoring and verifying sustainability performance and developing operating models.
  • Our energy efficiency project was implemented during 2022 and 2023. Ideapark’s building automation was updated, water cooling machines were replaced with water-air-heat pumps, internal energy loads were recycled with heat pumps, and ventilation unit fans were replaced with EC fans. These measures halved the annual consumption of district heating, and the saved amount could heat approximately 310 detached houses. Additionally, electricity consumption and annual CO2 emissions have decreased significantly after the efficiency measures.
  • Ideapark uses certified green electricity (100% renewable energy with a guarantee of origin).
  • Ideapark commissioned a calculation of its carbon footprint in 2022, when it used 100% electricity produced from renewable energy sources. With the measures taken, we reduced the amount of CO2e significantly from 3895.6 to 610.5 tonnes, i.e., the annual reduction was 3281.5 tonnes of CO2e. We compensate for the remaining carbon footprint by planting trees. Together with Reforest, we planted 2,672 trees that will bind 610.5 CO2 tons from the atmosphere during their life cycle in Forssa. The amount is based on Natural Resources Institute Finland’s calculations.
  • There are a total of 81 charging points for electric and hybrid cars in the yard of Ideapark.
  • Responsibility and sustainable development are obviously strongly involved in the planning of our future projects (e.g. hotel and ski park). For example, Waterworld Louhi, which was opened in autumn of 2024 is unique in its energy efficiency.
  • We have promoted better public transport connections together with the municipality of Lempäälä, the City of Tampere and transport companies. Today, Ideapark is well accessible by means of public transport, both for employees and customers.
